The Challenge

First Steps Childhood Learning Centers had a clear mission: to provide safe, nurturing, high-quality early education in Atchison, Kansas. But behind the scenes, the administrative load was becoming overwhelming. Between fielding parent inquiries, managing staff hiring, and preparing for a brand-new center opening, the leadership team needed more than just a digital presence—they needed a tool that could work for them.

They came to Storyweaver needing a modern, user-friendly website that could streamline applications, elevate their brand, and help busy parents and staff find what they needed—fast.

The Process

We started with clarity. Through brand strategy and collaborative planning, we identified the gaps in communication and the most common roadblocks for both new parents and prospective employees.

From there, we focused on building a site that was clean, easy to navigate, and deeply aligned with the heart of the First Steps mission: joyful, intentional, and rooted in community care.

Project goals included:

  • Simplifying the application process for both families and job seekers

  • Refreshing the existing brand with brighter visuals and consistent messaging

  • Showcasing First Steps’ values, locations, curriculum, and family culture

The Deliverables

We developed a digital experience that felt calm, confident, and full of heart.

Deliverables included:

  • Brand Messaging Refresh:
Refined tone, messaging, and structure to better communicate with young families and job seekers alike

  • Updated Visual Identity:
Tweaked colors and layout for better consistency, accessibility, and warmth

  • Brand Photography:
Captured real-life classroom moments to give the website an authentic, welcoming feel

  • Website Design & Build:
Built a mobile-friendly site from scratch with custom navigation, FAQ sections, staff bios, and clear CTAs for both new parents and prospective employees

  • Integrated Brightwheel Workflow:
Connected the new site directly to their Brightwheel app, making student and staff applications seamless and trackable

The Outcome

The new website gave First Steps:

  • A lighter administrative lift, with streamlined applications and fewer repetitive inquiries

  • A clear, trustworthy online presence that reflects the care and professionalism of their classrooms

  • A recruiting advantage, with an easy-to-use employee application system that supports center growth

  • A strong digital foundation just in time for the launch of their new second location

Why It Worked

First Steps didn’t just need a prettier website—they needed a partner who understood the complexity of early education and the realities of small-town operations. By focusing on clarity, connection, and functionality, we helped create a digital home that works as hard as their team does—and grows with them into the future.
