Atchison Public Schools
Unifying a District Through Strategic Mascot & Brand Design
Year :
2023
Industry :
Education
Client :
Atchison Public School District
Project Duration :
4 Months

The Process:
Storyweaver Brands led a 4-month strategic rebrand, grounded in stakeholder insight, visual storytelling, and practical usability across print, digital, and apparel. Because of our deep community ties—and our understanding of public education—we were uniquely positioned to help the district move forward with clarity and pride.
Key considerations included:
Listening to input from students, staff, parents, local vendors, and the broader Atchison community
Designing for multiple buildings and use cases, from playground signs to Google Slides
Evolving the Phoenix into something original, age-appropriate, and highly usable

The Deliverables:
We developed a full brand identity system, including:
A redesigned Phoenix mascot with movement, warmth, and meaning
Elementary-friendly variation of the mascot for younger audiences
Over 50 logo files and visual assets for use across print and digital
Lockup systems for general and athletic use
Custom #WeAre409 graphics to unify the campaign
Canva templates and user-friendly brand tools for staff
Brand strategy documentation for long-term consistency

The Results:
Following the brand rollout, USD 409 gained:
A cohesive look across all buildings and materials
A mascot that feels powerful and approachable—one students are proud to wear
A scalable system for internal and vendor use, reducing friction for apparel, signage, and publications
A refreshed sense of district pride tied to a clear visual story
The district also began a full website redesign shortly after the brand launch, using the new Phoenix visuals as a foundation for their updated digital presence.
Why It Worked:
We didn’t just redraw a bird—we rebuilt a system. One that gives teachers, administrators, and vendors the tools to communicate clearly and proudly. One that reflects the resilience of the Atchison community. And one that will serve the next generation of Phoenixes, wherever they soar.
